Cupping

What is Cupping?

Cupping is a technique that is useful in the treatment of problems such as local chi or blood stagnation in the channels, and it is usually performed as an alternative to acupuncture.

How does Cupping Therapy work?

Cupping uses rounded glass cups or jars warmed by a burning taper inside. After the cup is heated, it is quickly positioned over the selected area. Due to the flame inside the cup, all the oxygen is removed and when placed open side down, a vacuum anchors the cup to the skin and pulls the skin upward.

What are the results of Cupping?

The resulting pressure of Cupping encourages the chi and blood flow in the area beneath the cup, and the local stagnation begins to clear. Some sessions may result in temporary red markings or bruising where the cup was placed.

What type of cups can be used in Cupping Therapy?

There are various types of cups, such as rubber, bamboo and glass. Traditional Cupping and Vacuum Cupping are two current techniques used. Traditional Cupping requires flame to create a vacuum, and Vacuum Cupping uses a pump so no flame is required.
